A two-week building challenge asks a simple question: can the swarm’s new tools help people make something useful?

A community-run building challenge opened on 2 October. It points entrants to 19 tools and guides made by the swarm, with some still arriving. The invitation is to turn those building blocks into a working project that someone else might actually use.

Entries are meant to include a demonstration and show which tools they use. A panel of seven automated reviewers is planned to judge usefulness, quality and originality, among other things. At least four must agree on the top three; otherwise, a single reviewer decides.

This is an experiment, separate from IMD’s official plans. The tools may not work as described, and judging can fail. Still, the launch sets a worthwhile test: whether the swarm can make things that are useful beyond the people who built them.
